Context
Super Cafoutch is a collegial association created in September 2016 to support the creation of a cooperative and participative supermarket in Marseille. Since April 2018, it has been running the pilot grocery store that foreshadows it, the Mini Cafoutch: opening its doors 3 times a week, it offers food, hygiene and cleaning products to its members.
Project
The association now brings together more than 600 "consumer actors". Its vocation is to transform itself into a cooperative and to offer its members quality food and non-food products at reduced prices, giving priority but not exclusivity to local producers, short circuits and local seasonal products. Guaranteeing the quality of the selected products thanks to a high taste, nutritional and health requirements, it promotes the development of agriculture that is both favorable to farmers and respectful of the environment. The association aims to make its participants aware of current food and non-food issues and wishes to become a place of exchange and sharing around food and other products of current consumption.
Governance
The operation of the Super Cafoutch association favors direct democracy and horizontality. Operational decisions are discussed and taken within thematic working groups - Les Branches - which cover all aspects of the operation of the future supermarket (Super Cafoutch) and the pilot grocery store (Mini Cafoutch):

Each member of the Super Cafoutch can join one or more branches. Their coordination and strategic decisions are steered by a collegial board of directors - L’Arbre (The Tree) - made up of referent members from each of the branches.
Finally, all members can do their shopping in the test grocery store - Le Mini Cafoutch - and get involved in its operation, working there a few hours a month. The Mini Cafoutch is open 3 times a week (Wednesday from 4.30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.).
Means
The resources of the association consist of:
- volunteers,
- membership fees,
- the sale of products, services, services provided or events organized by the association within the scope of its object or likely to contribute to its realization,
- public subsidies aimed at contributing to the achievement of the association's social purpose,
- financial and material donations,
- any other resource authorized by the laws and regulations in force.
Project leaders
The project is steered by a collegial council, called: "the Tree", which is elected by the general assembly,. The Tree is the legal representative of the association. It is composed of 3 to 18 active members, referents from the different branches.
To become a member, an annual subscription is required (20€, or 10€ solidarity rate for the unemployed and students). Currently, members can get involved in different ways: by participating 3 hours a month in the operation of the test grocery store and / or by getting involved in a branch. They can also be "sympathizers", that is to say follow the project without taking part in the various missions related to its development.
