Pid’Assiette : Raise awareness on sustainable food

Associative

Pic'Assiette

< back to initiatives

Context

Founded in 2010, Pic'Assiette is an association for sustainable food education, which promotes a diet that is linked to the environment, health and the territory, such as a chain that goes from the field to our plate.

It raises awareness and educates through workshops and training courses. It supports and develops projects for the development of local food chains, shares and promotes bottom-up initiatives.

It was created on the basis of the following observations: a willingness of the ministry to take care of agriculture and food and to relocate them, the emergence of the notions of short food value chains, an increasingly industrial food supply, problems of overweight, morbid obesity, diet-related diseases, nutrition campaigns without much results ... The way to change all this is to reconnect people with their diet by becoming an actor of one’s diet.

Project

Pic'Assiette acts primarily on the territory north of Montpellier, Grand Pic Saint Loup, on 2 main directions: awareness and support.

3 objectives:

  • Raise awareness and educate about sustainable food
  • Encourage short value chains
  • Share citizen initiatives

The association organizes initiation and awareness workshops to develop curiosity, which thrives the curiosity, the pleasure and the desire to discover food and know-how. They also organize educational activities, in connection with the school programs which aim at providing providing students with skills in terms of consumer choice. But they also organize awareness raising sessions and mobilization around citizen behavior for the general public.

It also supports “Territorial Food Projects” (“Projet Alimentaire Territorial”), in order to stimulate and develop actions around quality food, to promote local circuits, to promote citizen actions, to support the implementation of discussion on the canteen system, etc.

How it works

The association has been working in collaboration with its partners such as environmental education and sustainable development networks EEDD- Coopere34 and MNE RNE 30- Collectif des Garrigues, the Regional Network of Education to Taste initiated by DRAAF Languedoc Roussillon, Nature and Progress, The Racine network, Civam Bio and the producers or the Farmers Market Association.

Project leaders

The team is made up of 6 people, facilitators, a project coordinator, a communications officer, etc., as well as many volunteers! The association has 2 employees and around 50 members. The association is also a member of the Coopere 34 network and the “Tout Un Plat” group. It carries out projects either by responding to calls for projects or by seeking funding from the Department, municipalities, etc.

Results

The association works with about thirty producers and targets an audience of about 2000 people a year. The project raises a certain interest among citizens to understand how to eat quality and locally produced food, at fair prices, through the establishment of collective group purchasing for example. The innovative nature of Pic'Assiette is to allow a global approach to sustainable food in the territories.

The Little Extra

Pic'Assiette targets all audiences: children, the general public, adults, people in business, the elderly, etc. Projects are most often projects with long-term scope. The association comes from a citizens' initiative and works on the territories to make quality food accessible to all and especially sensitive audiences.
