The context

In its municipal Agenda 21 or territorial plan for sustainable development, the town of Floirac, located within the territory ofBordeaux Metropolis, has been committed since 2014 to "Support organic and / or local food" in order to promote agriculture that is healthy and respectful of the environment and develop a local food production project on its territory. Thanks to this project, Floirac is actively participating in the Action Plan for a sustainable territory with a high quality of life validated in 2017 by Bordeaux Métropole.

The project

As part of its new Agenda 21 in 2018, the town continued to put its commitment into practice.  Floirac now rents a municipal plot located on the Domaine de la Burthe: a cultivable area of 6,000 m² which also includes greenhouses and shared infrastructure. The rental terms are made via a Temporary Occupancy Authorization (AOT) in the public domain. Other medium- to long-term projects may be added, while respecting the economic model of micro-farms. Because of its the desire to promote responsible agriculture for the environment, the ecological character of the Domaine de la Burthe and the protection of users, the town wishes to retain food production projects aimed at ecological and environmental interest.

Since November 2016, partnership work has been undertaken with the following stakeholders:

  • the action research project "Micro-Agri" on the study of micro-farms in Gironde, coordinator M. Damien TOUBLANT (www.microagri.org/);
  • the Bordeaux Sciences Agro engineering school, referent Ms. Nathalie CORADE (www.agro-bordeaux.fr/);
  • the Group of Public Interest Large Urban Project (GIP-GPV) Floirac, Cenon, Lormont and Bassens, referent Mr. Benjamin CHAMBELLAND (www.parclab.surlarivedroite.fr);
  • the Direction de la Nature de Bordeaux Métropole, referents Mr. Alain DE FRAMOND and Mrs. Elise GENOT.
