Farmers’ market – Nün Center

Context

Convinced that healthy, sustainable food has the power to bring communities, groups and individuals together, Nada Iskander, a nutritional therapist, decided to create the Nün Center Farmers Market.

This market is located in the Nün Center, a holistic health and wellness centre in the heart of Cairo, the capital of Egypt. The centre's mission is to improve health and empower the community through health and wellness treatments, coaching and therapy, in order to nourish body and mind.

Every week, the health centre hosts a farmers' market in the Zamalek district of Cairo, to encourage local producers with environmentally-friendly and ethical cultural practices to come and sell their produce at the stalls.

Project

Every Saturday from 11am to 3pm, the Nün Farmers' Market welcomes local producers, bakers and artisans to its stalls. The community of the Zamalek district is invited to meet local producers, support artisans and promote responsible agricultural practices while eating local, fresh and seasonal produce.

The market offers a wide variety of products:

• Fresh, organic and seasonal produce;
• Locally sourced dairy products;
• Home-made dishes and sweets;
• Artisan-made, handcrafted products;
• Sustainable products.

The market also provides a sales outlet for Cairo's certified organic and Global GAP farmers (good agricultural practice certification).

For whom ?

Any local business, craftsperson, producer or baker offering a product related to ecology or well-being can contact the Nün Center via a contact form on the association's website.

Little extra

In addition to the farmers' market, the Nün Center offers a range of activities. These include acupuncture, massage and integrative nutritional therapy.
