Context

Le Bar à Vrac is a grocery store and bar and restaurant of local and organic products without disposable packaging, a place where consumers can find a wide range of food, hygiene and cleaning products in bulk and / or on consignment. Innovation and social and environmental benefits, in a friendly environment.

Project

The Bar à Vrac is a friendly place to shop with pleasure in the midst of colors, flavors and raw materials, but also a place to stop to meet, chat over a drink and healthy delicacies …

It offers a very wide range of products, food with vegetarian, vegan alternatives (like Veg'Gras, alternative to foie gras), cosmetics, gifts, products for toddlers, household products, etc. .

The Bar à Vrac is a complement to the local fruit and vegetables distributed via family or farmer grocery stores, Paniers Marseillais, etc. The products are purchased directly from producers in the region with some extensions from the nearest neighboring departments for inaccessible food or for certain specialties which are now part of local gastronomy. They are chosen for their quality and provenance, with or without an organic label.

Project leaders

The Bar à Vrac was created by Nathalie Boudé, then aged 50, unemployed, and financed thanks to loans from the alternative bank LA NEF, France Active and Initiative Marseille Métropole, as well as donations from around sixty people.  In April 2016, a small group of employees created a support association, Eco Acting, which allows volunteers to participate in the activity. In September 2016 Clément Amézieux- Léopoldi was hired on an assisted contract to develop projects on anti-waste, vegetarian, organic, gluten-free catering and pastry, which is his specialty. ”

The Little Extra

The bulk bar also carries out actions with the ECO ACTING association, with literary Thursdays, to focus on the little things, those little things that seem trivial, but that make up life. ECO ACTING also organizes other activities, such as photo competitions.

Example: Poetic Thursdays with the intervention of "Animated" by Sophie Vallon (former student of a D.U "Training in leading creative writing workshops", Aix-Marseille University 2010-2011).
