Context

More than 80% of food purchases are now made in large and medium distribution surfaces, in supermarkets. However, the supermarkets get very little from local producers and our fruits and vegetables travel very many kilometers even though they are sometimes produced very close to home. In addition, the supermarkets have accustomed us to eating tomatoes and strawberries all year round ; we must now respect the seasons to limit the carbon impact of transport and off-season production.

“Eating local“ means taking into account the environment, promoting short circuits, caring about the local economy, our health, that of our children and of our neighbor. It is also contributing to the sustainability of the producer while respecting production costs.

Project

The challenge of La Compagnie Fermière is to create reassuring, friendly places in the heart of Bordeaux Métropole, based on regional products and offering flavor and taste, quality and authenticity. This place allows consumers, partners and staff to rediscover the values ​​of the farming profession today.

La Compagnie Fermière is an association whose aim is to offer in one place, all the fresh products necessary to compose a balanced weekly family menu. It is the producers who organize themselves to distribute their products themselves.

Compagnie Fermière already has two stores located a few minutes from Bordeaux, located in Mérignac and Gradignan.Their offer includes fruits, vegetables, meats and products processed on the farm. Quality, price, freshness and origin are the ‘raison d'être’ of La Compagnie Fermière.

The aim of this project is to give meaning to the producer / consumer relationship. This is why producers take turns to ensure a permanent presence at the point of sale. Thus, consumers are best advised on local products, on the eating habits to adopt.

Project leaders

The Compagnie Fermière is the association of 7 farming families, settled in Lot-et-Garonne for 6 of them and in the Landes for the 7th. Between them, they can offer all types of products: cold meats, fatted duck, beef and calves, vegetables, apples and kiwis, fruits and vegetables.

The Little Extra

Their website offers seasonal recipes with the products available in stores each week.
