L’Oasis Citadine (The Urban Oasis) : an agroecological and collaborative urban farm

Associative

< back to initiatives

Project

The Oasis Citadine is a place of initiation to agroecological practices at the heart of a collaborative urban farm. On this shared place located in Montpellier, members also called the “Oasians”, can learn to implement permaculture techniques, to work the garden, and to harvest products which will then be distributed equitably among all. The aim of this project is to make the citizen contribute to the ecological transition of the territory.

Open since April 2018, the Oasis Citadine is an place to go with family or friends, a unique setting to practice an activity in contact with nature. Different free or paid formulas are offered to participate in the life of the Oasis. The association is open to everyone, from the most unexperienced to the most experienced gardeners.

Means: The 8,000 m² domain has been rented for free for 5 years (renewable) to the association. Memberships, donations, calls for projects and crowdfunding are used to support and grow the urban farm.

Results: The Oasis Citadine had 70 members at the beginning of the 2018 school year. The team, which runs the site 7 days a week, would like to reach schoolchildren and businesses interested in gardening workshops or team building activities. They are initiating many different projects: construction of ecological toilets, cultivation of micro vegetables and herbs for restaurants, project of a "mobile" urban farm to speak about agroecology in events, etc.

Project leaders

This association, created in 2016 by Sébastien Girault and Germain Dufatty, aims to develop innovative concepts in urban agriculture, in particular through the collaborative urban farm Oasis Citadine in Flaugergue.

The Little Extra

Permaculture training is offered, as well as various activities (yoga, Qi Gong, debates, participatory workshops, etc.) as well as an associative bar. It is therefore not just an agricultural project but rather an ideal of community life.
