Institut Transitions

< back to initiatives

The context

In a society where quality of life at work is essential, many people aspire to a socially and/or ecologically useful job with a positive impact!

Since 2014, by supporting citizen initiatives (led by associations, social and solidarity companies, friends, neighbours, colleagues...) in favour of a more ecological and solidarity-based society, the Anciela association has made the following observation: many people are looking for meaning in their professional life and wish to actively participate in the transition, but they cannot find suitable training programmes or support. This is the reason why Anciela co-created the Transitions Institute.

The Transitions Institute is an association that accompanies and trains those who wish to (re)use their skills in the service of ecological and solidarity-based transition. The institute was created at the end of 2019 in Lyon, and the first training and support programmes were launched in September 2020.

The project

After a successful crowdfunding campaign, a team made up of committed associations, ethical companies, public institutions, teachers and researchers set up 3 training and support programs in the region of Lyon, open to all, to give people the opportunity to work professionally in favour of an ecological and supportive society.

Examples of partners committed to sustainable food systems:

A la source, La bergerie urbaine, Equilibres café, Epi c'est bon, Récup & Gamelles, Demain - Supermarché coopératif Lyonnais, Les Petites Cantines, My petite Factory, VRAC, Trattino, Place au terreau, Bulko, La Bonne Dôze, BelleBouffe, Le Permalab d'Ostara... and many more!

Zoom on the " New Paths " programme

“New Paths” is a year of support and training programmes to evolve towards a professional life that makes sense, around the ecological and solidarity transition.

The main event of this program is an accompanied research dissertation which allows us to explore one or more subjects related to transition. There are also courses dedicated to the knowledge of transition and transversal skills. Field missions in the service of local partners are also organized throughout the year. Two classes of 25 people will start this programme in September 2020.

Focus on the "Inspirations" programme

It is a catalogue of 11 short training modules (lasting between 18 and 42 hours) to immerse yourself in one of the many subjects and challenges of the transition: urban agriculture, low-tech, social and solidarity economy, zero waste, ethical fashion, ethical and ecological tourism... Each module combines theory, meetings with local actors and practical missions.

Some modules are directly related to food resilience:

  • Food third places: thinking about spaces to support local, ecological and solidarity-based food systems
  • Urban agriculture: building fertile cities
  • Supporting changes in food practices with a possibility of transition

Training programmes will start at the end of 2020.

Focus on the "New Jobs" programme

It is a catalogue of training courses lasting 6 to 9 days to learn about a job that is undergoing significant changes in the face of the challenges of the ecological and solidarity transition: grocery shopping, cooking, gardening and landscaping, agriculture... The first modules will start in September 2021.

The little extra

The Transitions Institute regularly shares events, films and documentaries to be seen, podcasts to be listened to, on its website and its social networks (facebook and linkedin).
