Coopcinelle: marketing organic and local products

< back to initiatives

Project

Coopcinelle is a store that offers many products from organic farming. Their objective is to promote the producers of the region, in a locavore logic, but also gluten-free and vegetarian foods.

Project leaders

In 1991 a group of consumers and producers who were looking to find organic products decided to create an associative point of sale. The idea was to offer fruit, vegetables and processed products that meet organic farming standards at an affordable price. The objective was also to promote local and regional production, thereby facilitating the economic development of small businesses working in the "organic" sector, both in agriculture and in the craft industry (bakers, olive growers, beekeepers, jam makers, etc.).

The activity is ensured by 5 employees accompanied by a dozen volunteers.

The Label : "QUALITE FRANCE" :

“To be marketed and labeled as being from Organic Farming (with or without the AB logo), a product must have been checked and certified by this type of certification body. Qualité France is thus an independent body for the control and certification of organic food products and cosmetics, but also of organic stores and services, delivering among others the Label Rouge, the AB label and the Qualité-syndic label.

Today, Coopcinelle is a partner with committed companies, Le Guide Rusé, a free directory listing all the good organic and well-being addresses in Marseille and its surroundings, and Le Panier de Flora that sells fruit and vegetable in Eyragues.

Results

Currently around 600 people of all ages (young couples with children rub shoulders with retirees) find near them a full range of organic products ranging from fruit and vegetables to household cleaning products and basic food products allowing them to have a healthy and varied diet.

The Little Extra

Coopcinelle offers small structures an outlet for the sale of their products without intermediaries.

"We regularly organize presentations of products offered by these small producers who work in a spirit of fairness and cooperation. We participate in fairs and organic events taking place in the region."
